Well, first of all, article directories have good page rank and usually appear on the top of the search engines. Which means, these sites usually have high traffic and if you want your articles to be seen, its more likely to be seen there first before your blog gets a huge following. Also, since it has high traffic, it usually has a good page rank (or whichever comes first). Having a link back from an article directory to your site has huge benefits for your page rank.
All article directories allow you to have a couple of backlinks to your site. Whether the backlinks can be in the articles themselves or only in the author’s resource box, depends on the rules and guidelines of the respective article directory. However, I strongly recommend EzineArticles because the site has already been well established although their submission rules are tighter. Can I submit one article to multiple directories?
If you follow the rules of Google, I would recommend you not to.
